Michele Black and Terrance Deemer are challenging the conventions of fine art jewelry.  Our aesthetic can be summed up as contemporary with soul, inspired by the stark simplicity of natural forms, patterns, and textures.

As a team, we begin the design process by rethinking the standard approaches to everything from gravity to closures.

Unusual Materials

Our finest gemstones, from world-renowned cutters in Germany and Brazil, are one-of-a-kind.  A sparkling rainbow of stones, from every corner of the world, is complemented with a range of uncommon metals.  Warm high-karat golds, cool white Argentium sterling, dark rich shakudo, and more.

The Process

"Handmade" means we use traditional methods to alloy, pull wire, cast, carve, and fabricate the work here in our studio.  Although our early backgrounds are very different - Terrance's in engineering, and Michele's in art - we have both had extensive training and experience in bauble-smithing.  Ours is a true collaboration; each is a designer and maker.

The Jewelry

The culmination of all these elements is jewelry that is at once elegant, sculptural, and very wearable.  Versatility is key.  A piece may have multiple possibilities as a brooch/pendant, be reversible, or have removable components.  Earrings, necklaces, bracelets, cuffs, and rings - all designed to work as both casual and formal wear accessories.

For us, the journey is no less than the destination.  Artistic growth means change, so we are constantly evolving, inventing new techniques or perhaps learning ancient ones.  Our current explorations involve etching images onto metal, from particle physics to botany, whatever sparks our imaginations. Whole new worlds are opening up.  Come and see...
